History

The Robotics Society of Japan was established on January 28, 1983. The Society was established for the following reasons:

  • The interests in industrial robots are growing rapidly, and the researches on various fields of robotics are improved throughout the world.
  • It is expected in the future that robots will be launched into medical service, social welfare and office work, therefore, we should study robots not only from the aspects of engineering and technology but also from psychological, social and economic points of view.
  • Although there are many other academic societies whose activities cover a specific part of robotics, they act individually with little exchange of their research results.
The Robotics Society of Japan aims at giving the researchers concerned the opportunity to exchange information and to present their papers on robotics. The Society wishes to act as an academic center of robotics in Japan in order to contribute to the development of the technology of industrial robots and robot engineering in cooperation with related societies of related fields both in Japan and abroad.
