What is RSJ?

The Robotics Society of Japan was founded on January 28, 1983 for purposes of promoting progress in academic fields and providing specialists with a venue for announcing their research and exchanging technical information. As of August 2007, RSJ had a total of approximately 4,300 regular and student members, and 72 groups had become supporting members. RSJ conducts a wide range of activities: it publishes The Journal of the Robotics Society of Japan and RSJ’s official international journal, "Advanced Robotics", both of which present collections of scientific papers and explanatory articles about the latest advances in robotics; it holds an “ Annual Conference of the Robotics Society of Japan」” as well as “Robotics Symposia”; it plans and holds seminarsrelated to new fields and basic information in robotics; it promotes study and technology, in fields related to robots, by presenting the Best Paper Awards, Technical Innovation Awards and Young Investigation Excellence Awards that it has established; and it supports the activities, such as “robot music,” of specialized research committees. In cooperation with other academic societies in Japan and overseas, RSJ also supports symposia. These include ICAR, ISR, IROS and other international conferences.
