The Regulations for the Publishing of Irregular Publications (Books)


Enacted on September 27, 1993 by the Board of Directors

 

 

1. Definition of Irregular Publications and Purpose of these Regulations

1.1. These Regulations shall apply to the publishing of irregular publications of the Robotics Society of Japan (hereinafter referred to as the “Society”).

 

1.2. The irregular publications referred to in these Regulations mean the publications such as books, video tapes, floppy disks, laser disks, CD-ROM, etc., which bear the name of this Society, excluding the journal and the European language journal that are issued periodically by this Society, collections of papers such as materials for workshops or lectures hosted by this Society and the reports of committees, etc.

 

1.3. The publishing of irregular publications shall aim for the development of this Society and Robotics.

 

2. Plan and Procedure for Publications

2.1. Irregular publications may be published in accordance with the predetermined procedures, based on the proposals of the regular members and honorary members of this Society and organizations identified by this Society (hereinafter referred to as the “Planner”).

2.2. When irregular publications are to be published, the Planner shall make application to this Society with the designated application form and shall obtain approval.

2.3. The Publication Business Committee shall review the application document submitted by the Planner and shall report the result thereof to the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors shall determine whether the proposal shall be approved or not, based on the opinion reported by the Publication Business Committee.

2.4. When deemed necessary, the Publication Business Committee may request a detailed explanation from the Planner for said publication.

2.5. When deemed necessary, the Publication Business Committee may form an organization such as a subcommittee, an editing committee, etc., in relation to such publication and may examine the details.

3. Types of Publication
3.1. The types of publication shall be classified as follows:
(1) Self-publication
   A type of publication where this Society bears all the expenses required for the publication.
(2) Commission publication
   A type of publication where this Society executes a contract with a third party publishing company and commissions the publication to such company.
(3) Other publications
   A type of publication that does not fall under either (1) or (2) above.

 

3.2. The publishing contract shall be executed by this Society.

 

4. Copyrights

4.1. The ownership of the copyrights of the publications in relation to these Regulations shall exclusively belong to this Society.

 

4.2. Neither the copyright holder nor the Planner shall reprint or publish the whole or part of the publication, shall publish or cause others to publish any work that can be clearly recognized as being similar with the publication, during the duration of the publication right described above from the date when the application of the publication is approved. However, this shall not apply if the copyright holder or the Planner obtains the written permission of this Society in advance.

 

4.3. If the copyright holder intends to use or cite the copyrighted work of others, the copyright holder shall take necessary measures at its own responsibility in order to prevent copyright infringement and this Society shall not take any responsibility.

4.4. The copyright holder shall submit the manuscript to this Society after the completion of the writing or editing. This Society shall immediately take publication procedures for the copyright work after the delivery of the manuscript. Additionally, this Society may change the content, expression or title of the copyright work at the time of publication under the approval of the copyright holder, in order to make such content, etc., appropriate for the publication.

 

4.5. If there is any significant difference between the content described in the application document and the projected publication or if the writing is still unfinished after the scheduled completion date for the writing, this Society may cancel approval for publication previously given.

 

4.6. When this Society intends to make a new reproduction of the publication, this Society shall inform the copyright holder about such reproduction in advance. In this case, the copyright holder may request the modification, etc., of the publication.

 

5. Manuscript Fee and Royalties
5.1. The amount and ratio of the manuscript fee to be paid by this Society to the writer and the royalties to be paid by the Planner and by the copyright holder to this Society shall be determined in accordance with the internal regulations of this Society separately stipulated.

 

6. Other

6.1. (Donation of Books)

If any irregular publication having the name of this Society or indicating a recommendation from this Society is published, the Planner shall immediately make a donation of such publication to this Society.

 

6.2. (Advertisement)

If any advertisement related to the irregular publication is inserted in the journal of this Society, the sponsor of such advertisement shall pay the advertisement fee to this Society. However, this shall not apply in the case when this Society is the sponsor of the advertisement.

 

Supplementary Provision

1. These Regulations shall be implemented from September 27, 1993.
