How to Join RSJ

Based on its articles of incorporation, RSJ has five types of members, as listed in the table below: regular members, student members, honorary members, life members, and supporting members (Japanese Only). When joining RSJ, regular members, student members, and supporting members do not require an introducer. RSJ’s current membership is composed of people from a wide range of fields, including researchers, educators, production technology managers, technical consultants, and people involved in publishing.

1. As individual members of RSJ the special robotics association, you can indicate status and activities of specialist in robotics, and build up network between specialists in robotics field.
2. Individual members except student member B and life members are sent 1 free copy of each issue of the Journal of the Robotics Society of Japan (JRSJ) (which also serves as a journal for essays and sells for 2,700 yen exclusive of consumption tax).
   Through the use of the online journal on J-stage, all individual members can read and download PDF files of papers and reviews of the journals that were published in the last twelve months except for the latest issue.
3. All individual members can access the online international journal Advanced Robotics (AR) for free.
4. All individual members can submit papers to JRSJ and AR. Whether submitted papers are published will be decided by peer review conducted according to JRSJ’s or AR’s standards.
   Exceptional papers published in JRSJ or AR will be eligible for Best Paper Awards and Advanced Robotics Paper Awards.
5. All individual members can present at Robotics Symposia and annual conferences held by cooperation societies; ROBOMECH of JSME, SI of SICE, et al.
   Presentations made at Annual Conference will be eligible for Excellent Research and Technology Award, Excellent Presentation Award, or Young Investigation Excellence Awards and Presentations made at Robotics Symposia will be eligible for Robotics Symposia Young Investigation Excellence Award.
6. All individual members can participate, at a reduced price, in Annual Conferences, domestic symposia, seminars(in Japanese), exhibitions, study tours, and other events held or cosponsored by RSJ.
7. All individual members can participate, at a reduced price, in IROS、Ro-man, celebrated international robotics conferences cosponsored by RSJ.
8. All individual members can access the Proceedings Archive of Annual Conference of RSJ.

1. As supporting member of RSJ the special robotics association, your company can grow own brand as active robotics company.
2. A RSJ logo data that is crdited the supporting member of RSJ is provided. Please use the logo for your company's PR.
3. Supporting members can catch a great deal of attention from many excellent students and personnel in robotics field by PR on the supporting members link site (Japanese Only).
4. Supporting members are sent 2 free copies of each issue of the Journal of the Robotics Society of Japan (JRSJ) (which also serves as a journal for essays and sells for 2,500 yen exclusive of consumption tax). One additional copy is added for each unit of membership.
5. Supporting members are sent a copy of the proceedings of Annual Conference at no charge.
6. We will deliver your PR E-mail to other supporting members (Japanese Only).

7. Supporting members are given discount rate (30% off) for application fee of the robot systems and devices exhibition in Annual Conference.
8. Supporting members are given discount rate (15% off) for advertising in JRSJ.
9. Individuals belonging to companies or groups that are supporting members can participate in RSJ events at a reduced price using the following service tickets that are provided to the contact person of the supporting member every February.　
   • Discount ticket for Annual Conference (5 tickets per unit):
     Individuals belonging to companies or groups that are supporting members but are not a regular/student member himself/herself can participate in the Annual Conference (once a year) at the regular membership early registration fee; provided, however, that presentations at Annual Conferences can only be made by regular/student members.
   • Invitation ticket for Seminars (2 tickets per unit):
     Individuals belonging to companies or groups that are supporting members can participate in the Robotics Seminars (Japanese Only) (about 7 times a year) without any fee.
   • Discount ticket for Seminars (10 tickets per unit):
     Individuals belonging to companies or groups that are supporting members can participate in the Robotics Seminars (Japanese Only) (about 7 times a year) at the student membership fee.

Annual membership fees are as shown in the table below.
When first joining RSJ, regular members is charged an entrance fee of 1,000 yen.
Student member has two types: Student member A, and Student member B. Student A is sent Journal of Robotics Society of Japan (JRSJ) (Japanese) by air mail or surface mail, and Student member B isn’t sent JRSJ. However, all members can read review articles and papers put in JRSJ by J-Stage, and Advanced Robotics (English: International RSJ Paper Journal) provided online.
There are no charges for the procedures involved in changing one’s membership status from a student member to a regular member.

• RSJ’s accounting and business year is from January to December. Each year’s membership fee, valid up through the end of that December, is to be paid in advance. In case membership is begun in the middle of the year, a prorated membership fee will be paid for that year. Issues of JRSJ will be sent, starting with the first issue published after membership is established. Back issues from the initial year of membership will be sent to those who want them only if they are in stock.
• To eliminate hassles for membership fee payments, RSJ has established an automatic account-to-account transfer system. If you wish to use this system, please notify us when you join. (RSJ bears the service charges for transfers.)
• When joining, members may choose the publication to which they wish to subscribe, the Journal of the Robotics Society of Japan or Advanced Robotics. Members who wish to receive both publications should provide notification to that effect.
• Please notify the RSJ Administration Office if your contact information changes: for example, if an organization of your company has been changed. (The Administration Office’s contact information is as stated below.)
• Should membership fees not be paid, the sending of the Journal of the Robotics Society of Japan will be discontinued. Should either publication not arrive, please pay your annual membership fee immediately. Continued nonpayment will result in expulsion from RSJ.
• Should you wish to withdraw from RSJ for some compelling reason, please notify the Administration Office in writing.

As soon as the RSJ Administration Office checks the membership application and confirms that the requisite deposit has been made, it carries out the admission procedures. With the approval of the board of directors, the applicant becomes a member.
